Women Playing Baseball Exhibit and Program

This month's baseball exhibit at the Blackwood Campus Library features opportunities for women to play baseball, past and present. There are pictures and memorabilia from the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (1943-54) that was the inspiration for "A League of Their Own", including player cards and a bobblehead doll! Action photos from the 2006 season of the Chicago Gems, and the Rocks (Philadelphia Women's Baseball League) show that this is baseball, not softball! Finally, team member Malaika Underwood's pictures from Team USA's 13-11 triumph over Japan to clinch the 2006 World Cup title in women's baseball round out the display.

Join us on March 22, at 7 pm, when adjunct professor and Rocks outfielder Sheila Sikorski presents her research, "Women Playing Baseball". Get ready for the season by getting a PWBL hat, then check the website for tryout info: www.phillywomensbaseball.com

Who was the greatest strikeout pitcher of all time?

Jim Albert will demonstrate how to determine the answer to this and other statistical puzzles when he speaks at the Blackwood Campus Library on Thursday, March 8, at 3:30 and at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Albert is the author of "Teaching Statistics Using Baseball" and "Curve Ball: Baseball Statistics, and the Role of Chance in the Game", copies of which will be available for purchase and autographing.

While you're at the library, enjoy the exhibit of materials from the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (1943-1954) and the Philadelphia Women's Baseball League (founded 2004). Plan to attend Sheila Sikorski's presentation, "Women Playing Baseball", on March 22. Yes, women do play!
