What Are Credo Reference Topic Pages?

Credo Reference Topic Pages are a starting point for all of your research - on one page. Materials for topics come from Credo Reference, library subscribed resources, and reputable online tools. There are over 10,000 topic pages covering a wide range of subject areas including art, history, literature, health, people and much more!

Where Can I Find Credo Reference Topic Pages?

Go to the CCC Library Home Page. Under Research Help, click on the Reference Collection link. Then click on the link to Credo Reference. Or click on the Articles tab. Then click on the word Title. Click on B-C. Finally, click on Credo Reference.

To Find Topic Pages, enter a search term, such as, Civil Rights or Supreme Court in the Credo search box. If a topic page is available, it will appear at the top of the search results.** Click on the link and the topic page will open.

**Remember to check out the reference entries below the topic page link for all other Credo content.

Searching Topic Pages

Once in a topic page, you will find a wealth of information customized for your needs. Click on a definition, images, journal articles, books, e-books, videos, encyclopedia articles, news, related topics, and more. Click on Civil Rights to view a sample topic page. Scroll down to view entire page.

You can access Credo Reference and Credo Reference Topic Pages at the CCC Library or off campus. To access off campus, you will need at up-to-date CCC library card.

First Friday This Week: Time to Cite! NoodleBib Makes It Easy

Be sure to stop by the Wolverton Library on the Blackwood Campus this Friday, April 2, between 1 and 3 p.m. to learn how NoodleBib can help you to avoid plagiarism by creating accurate citations for your research projects. Neglecting to cite sources, or incorrect citations, can ruin your grade on an otherwise acceptable project.

NoodleBib is based on the latest editions of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers and the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. It is available on the library website. Using it from college workstations on the campuses is seamless. From home you will be prompted for your library card number.

 

The library also offers an online guide to NoodleBib, found by clicking on 'Citing Sources (NoodleBib)' in the left side navigation bar. Although NoodleBib provides good instructions, the library guide describes how to get started, the process of generating citations, how to manipulate and use the citation list that NoodleBib creates, and offers additional tips on using NoodleBib as well as links to other citation and writing guides, and guides to recognizing and avoiding plagiarism.

 

Those who attend First Fridays this semester (this is the last one!) may enter a drawing for a Bookstore gift card.

Look, Listen, Read – Visual, Audio, Text - The Library Has It All

Whenever you need digital images, charts, diagrams, music, or video for –

 

* an illustrated oral report;

 

* clips or images embedded in a Powerpoint presentation;

 

* clips or images embedded in an online essay;

 

* printed images, charts, diagrams attached to a written essay -

 

Visit the Library website! Click on Multimedia Collection under Featured Resources (or Databases by Subject: Media).

 

Many resources listed here are no-brainers. ARTstor is clearly an image collection; Ambrose Video offers streaming films; Naxos Music and Naxos Spoken Word contain streaming audio files.

 

You’ll be surprised at some of the others. For example, Access Science and Encyclopedia Britannica continually add new video content!

 

How to cite the multimedia resources you use in your reports? Many resources include a citation in MLA or APA format for each image or clip. Or, use NoodleBib, the citation generator provided by the library.

 

You can be sure that these resources are reliable and accurate, unlike many hits you will retrieve in a Google or Yahoo! Search. 

 

Get or update your library card each semester and you can use library resources from off-campus too.

Get Full Off-campus Access from Library Website

Camden County College Library cardholders may use any of the online resources licensed by the library from off-campus, free of charge. A current College library card number is required.

The search must originate using the link to the resource from the library website. This activates the access management system. If researchers go directly to EBSCOhost or Science Direct or The Chronicle of Higher Education, for example, that website can't tell that they are affiliated with CCC and will deny them access, or prompt them to pay for articles.

So, from off-campus, go to http://library.camdencc.edu, and click on the resource you wish to use. You will be prompted to enter your name and library bar code number and PIN. If you have not yet created a PIN, just follow the instructions. You will then be routed to the full version of the resource.

If you still have difficulty, please contact the library via phone, email or Meebo. There are a great number of connections that have to be made for this all to work, and sometimes they break down without our knowing it.

GreenFILE Online Database

    If your area of research interest is related to environmental sustainability, take a look at GreenFILE, an EBSCO product. Available from the library website, http://library.camdencc.edu this collection of research materials offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for more than 384,000 records, and Open Access full text for over 4,700 records.  

Finding Nursing Books at the Library

Ask-the-Librarian recently responded to a question about finding books for the Helene Fuld School of Nursing R.N. program:

 

"All of the nursing books (and journals) that support the Helene Fuld School of Nursing program are now in the Wolverton Library.

 

"There are several ways to find them:

1) Many (but not all) of the books are located in the "Medicine" section, which is the "R" section, on the 3rd floor.

 

2) When you go to the library home page, http://library.camdencc.edu/ , and click on "Find Books & More," if you type "Helene Fuld" in the search box, you'll see 1060 books in the Helene Fuld collection, located throughout the library. This includes some books that are restricted to faculty.

 

3) If you search the library catalog (CamCat, http://iii.camden.lib.nj.us/search~S7 ) by "Subject," and type in "Helene Fuld School of Nursing", you'll be brought to a link to all of the Helene Fuld books.

 

4) Some books are set aside for particular nursing classes. They are on what's called Reserve. To see what's on reserve, you can go to the library home page, http://library.camdencc.edu/ , click on "Find Books & More," click on the link "reserve materials," and then search by instructor or class.

Save Time - Use a Library Guide!

Ask-the-Librarian fielded several questions this month about finding literary criticism on such topics as, for example, Homer's portrayal of women, 'The Miller's Tale' in Canterbury Tales, irony in Oedipus the King.

In all cases, the response was, "Have you seen the library's guide to finding literary criticism?" and the link to it: http://libguides.camdencc.edu/literarycriticism.

The library's list of guides has received several additions this semester; it continues to grow. When beginning your research, check to see if there is one for your topic. If not, send a message to asklib@camdencc.edu, and we'll respond. If we get the same question several times, we'll add the topic to our list of future guides.

Start at the library home page to use online materials from off-campus

Ask-the-Librarian recently helped a person who could not get into EBSCO article databases from home with the following advice. The same directions are true for article databases from other vendors.

 

Camden County College library cardholders must begin at the library home page:

 

1) First, go to the library home page:

http://library.camdencc.edu/

 

2) Click on the tab "Find Articles & more"

 

3) Select which database you want to search. EBSCO is a company that provides many databases, such as Academic Search Premier (a general database, searching academic, news, and magazine sources), PsycArticles (Psychology journals), CINAHL (Nursing sources) & Business Source Premier(business sources).

 

4) When you click on 'go' or 'select' to connect to the database, you will be prompted to enter your name and library card number. This is how you are authenticated as a Camden County College user.

 

Don't hesitate to ask your questions via email (see Ask A Librarian at the top of the home page) or IM (Meebo box on the left side of the home page) if you can't get to a library in person.

Artifacts from the local history collection of the Willingboro Public Library will be on display at the Wolverton Library during the month of April.

Willingboro NJ celebrated its 50^th anniversary in 2008 with events that featured reunions of original residents and exhibits of memorabilia.

  The town began as Levittown NJ, but later reclaimed the area’s historic name. We thank the Willingboro Public Library for their generosity in lending material for this exhibit.

Finding information about the products children use for inhalants and huffing.

Ask-the-librarian recently answered a question about where to find information on the products children use for inhalants and huffing, such as nitrous oxide, acetone, butane, fluorocarbon and toluene:

Are you looking for information about the effects of nitrous oxide, acetone, butane, fluorocarbon, and toluene? (Be careful with the spelling on those last two!) Or are you looking for information about their chemical composition and standard uses?

1) If you're looking for information about the effects, here are a few places I suggest looking:

-The library database Academic Search Premier, accessible off-campus using a library card from

http://library.camdencc.edu/ , and use search terms such as acetone AND abuse.

-Look up the terms in an encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia of drugs, alcohol & addictive behavior is available online through the library catalog, and has a section on inhalants.

The Encyclopedia of Drug Abuse, available in print in the Wolverton Library  (Blackwood Campus) on the first floor under call# REF HV5804 .E94 1992, has useful sections on each chemical individually as well as a relevant section on inhalants.

-Encyclopedia Britannica, available online from the 'Reference Collection' page of the website, has a description of the effects of breathing nitrous oxide but focuses on the chemistry/applications for some of the others.

-Lexis Nexis, another library database accessible from off-campus using a library card from

http://library.camdencc.edu/ , has a number of news stories about inhalant abuse.

2) If you're looking for information about the chemical composition of the inhalants, try using the library's online encyclopedia "Access Science." Connect to Access Science by going to the main library page

http://library.camdencc.edu/ and clicking on "Reference Collection," and then on Access Science. If you search for each of the chemical names, there is a description of their composition and common applications.
