The National Women's History Project (NWHP) theme for 2011 is "Our History is Our Strength." As stated by the NWHP, "Our shared history unites families, communities, and nations. Although women's history is intertwined with the history shared with men, several factors - social. religious, economic, and biological - have worked to create a unique sphere of women's history."
In conjunction with the celebration of Women's History Month, the CCC Blackwood Library staff has created a display honoring Alice Paul, Mount Laurel, New Jersey native, feminist, suffragist, and political strategist.
Alice Paul Display at the CCC Blackwood Library
From the Web site of the Alice Paul Institute, "Alice Paul was the architect of some of the most outstanding political achievements on behalf of women in the 20th century." "The mission of the Alice Paul Institute is to honor Alice Paul's legacy by educating the public about her life, preserving historic Paulsdale" (her birthplace and family home) "developing future leaders and achieving women's equality."
The library display features an array of historical and newsworthy items on loan from the Alice Paul Institute. Stop by during the month of March to learn more about the groundbreaking accomplishments of Alice Paul. Check out a book on the topic of women's history. Handouts are available from the NWHP and the Alice Paul Institute.
