Finding articles on consumer buying behavior

Students often ask where they can find articles on Consumer Buying Behavior.

We recommend the article database Academic Search Premier for this topic. It's on our website, under the Search for Articles button. (http://library.camdencc.edu)

We suggest these search terms:

Consumer Behavior, male consumers, women consumers, teenage consumers, teenagers as consumers.

So...go to Academic Search Premier  and -
First, enter one of the search terms in the Find box

Then, if the professor has specified particular publications, go down to "Refine Search" and scroll down to the Publication box and enter a title such as Business Week. Repeat this step for each of the other search terms and publication titles until you find articles you can use.

We suggest searching only one phrase at a time.

Following these steps should get you on your way!

NJKI Update

Posted on behalf of the New Jersey State Library:

“As many of you may know by now, the State of

New Jersey

budget for FY08 will provide $2 million to continue the

New Jersey

Knowledge Initiative. This is one million dollars less than is needed to continue the program at its current level.

This does not affect the annual renewal for Ebsco’s Academic Search Premier for VALE [academic libraries], as this expenditure is funded by state network funds. This renewal has already been processed and will continue through June 30, 2008.

The intent of the State Library and the NJKI Task Force is to continue all NJKI databases for as long as the $2 million will last, which we expect to be until February 28, 2008, assuming vendor agreement.

The State Library and the Task Force will continue to pursue all available avenues and options to keep these resources, which are so essential to our entrepreneurial businesses, as well as our academic community and public library customers. “

Summer library hours - your feedback needed

Both public and academic libraries usually have shorter hours of operation in the summer. Now that many library resources are online, this may not be a problem for those who have Internet access at home. But for those who do not, or those who wish to have the assistance of a librarian, this could be a problem.

The first summer session ends today. What has been your experience this summer so far? Have you been able to get the library materials and services that you needed? Which library or libraries did you use?

Thanks for your comments to this post. We'll take them into account as we plan for next year.

NJKI Cut - thanks for support

Pat Tumulty, Executive Director of NJ Library Assoc., reports that the NJ Knowledge Initiative budget cut went through. That $1 million cut is a 33% decrease, so the ramifications will be serious. However, we do not know yet which resources will be cut. The NJKI Advisory Committee will meet when the dust settles.

Pat extends her thanks to all those who contacted their legislators in support of NJKI, and I add my thanks to hers. Although unsuccessful, the lobbying of the last 2 weeks did have an impact, she said, which may pay off later. Her testimony at the public hearing is on the NJLA website: http://www.njla.org.

NJKI in Trouble

>

The state budget that will begin July 1 is being discussed in the legislature now. I just received this message from Judy Cohn, Chair of the VALE consortium, of which we are a member, and which has been in the forefront with the State Library in championing the New Jersey Knowledge Initiative:

We have just learned that resolutions were signed earlier today by Richard Codey, Louis Greenwald,

To >and the State Treasurer to reduce NJKI funding from $3M to $2M for FY2008. To see the resolutions, go to

Please contact anyone you know who might help us change this outcome.

In figuring our budget for access to databases for the coming year, I recently compiled a list that shows the databases that we will purchase directly (total $30,000), those that we will ask the Perkins program to fund (total $34,000), and those that we expect to receive from the NJKI (New Jersey Knowledge Initiative) statewide contracts (total estimated value to CCC if we had to purchase ourselves $50,000-100,000).

Clearly, it is in the interests of the state to fund these contracts centrally: all the 50 academic libraries in the state - and through them, students and faculty at remote locations - and some 300 businesses made use of these resources under the $3 million worth of statewide NJKI contracts during the past year; all public libraries also received some of them. Negotiated by libraries individually, they would cost some $75 million.

The Initiative was developed to support NJ businesses, and those preparing for careers therein, so the resources are weighted toward high-end scientific and technical material. But they also include resources now considered essential for everyone, such as Academic Search Premier, the database most heavily used by our community.

Assemblyman Greenwald has been one of NJKI's staunchest supporters. We need to remind him what an extraordinary value this has been for our students and businesses. If you have occasion to speak to anyone about this today or tomorrow - this is moving fast - or feel led to email your State Senators or Assembly people, please let them know how important it is for Camden County College Libraries.

Thanks -

Hand-Made and Altered Books Display

Professor Kay Klotzbach has placed hand-made and altered book forms, created by students for their final projects in her hybrid art appreciation course, on display at the Blackwood Campus library this summer. In these projects, students demonstrate their knowledge of visual elements and design principles by applying it to communicate a message. Come, see and be inspired!

The display may be viewed during library hours: Monday-Thursday 8 am - 9 pm.

Research Guides for Course Assignments

Two emails that came into the Ask-A-Librarian box in the past week asked for help with specific assignments - which is exactly what that box is for!

In both cases, the librarian was able to refer the student to http://library.camdencc.edu/WebSubjectGuides/courseassignments.htm, where we have posted the guides that we create when a class visits the library. The email response also contained additional pertinent suggestions.

Get a head start on your assignment by checking this url to see if we have already prepared a guide - and keep those emails coming too!
